Oklahoma State running back, Chuba Hubbard may run away with the Maxwell Award in 2019.

Redshirt sophomore, Chuba Hubbard, has only started four games and is already on the preseason watch list for the coveted Maxwell Award, given to the college football player of the year. Hubbard took over the starting position with four games remaining in the 2018 season after, current Baltimore Ravens running back, Justice Hill was sidelined due to an injury. During that four-game stretch, which featured three top 25 teams (no. 6 Oklahoma, no. 7 West Virginia, and no. 23 Missouri), Hubbard averaged over 100 yards per carry and totaled five touchdowns on the ground. Oklahoma State fans should be excited about what is next for this talented player this upcoming season.

Listed at 6-1, 207 pounds, Hubbard’s frame is something that NFL scouts are excited about. Scouts will be keeping a close eye on Hubbard this season in a new offence led by newly hired offensive coordinator, Sean Gleeson. The former Princeton OC, Gleeson, was hired by the Cowboys this offseason in an attempt to take their already great offense to the next level. In the past, the Cowboys have relied heavily on the passing attack to create offense. With Gleeson calling the shots, expect a much more balanced offense to hopefully create more scoring opportunities for the Stillwater Cowboys.

Gundy has already gave immense praise to Hubbard, claiming the runningback reminds him of another Oklahoma State great, Barry Sanders, in terms of Hubbard’s level of preparation throughout the week. With 22 catches and over 200 receiving yards last season, it will be exciting to see how the Cowboys implement their young star into the offense this season. I expect the Cowboys’ staff to be creative in the way they utilize Hubbard, both in the run and pass game.
